Einstein Appoints Endowed Chairs, Faculty Scholars

Recognizing the accomplishments of Einstein’s faculty, the Board of Trustees has recently approved endowed chair and faculty scholar appointments.

Endowed Chairs

Jill P. Crandall, M.D., an expert in diabetes prevention, was named the Anita and Jack Saltz Chair in Diabetes Research. Dr. Crandall is a professor of medicine and the chief of the division of endocrinology at Einstein. She is also the director of the Diabetes Clinical Trials Unit at Einstein and Montefiore and a principal investigator for several National Institutes of Health–sponsored clinical trials.

Marla J. Keller, M.D., an expert in the study of HIV and herpes in women and on the treatment of COVID-19, was named the Jacob A. and Jeanne E. Barkey Chair in Medicine. Dr. Keller is a professor of medicine and of obstetrics & gynecology and women’s health, the interim senior associate dean for clinical and translational research, and the director of the Harold and Muriel Block Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at Einstein.

Carlos J. Rodriguez, M.D., M.P.H., an expert in health disparities in cardiovascular disease in Hispanic/Latinx populations, was named the Eleazar and Feige Reicher Chair in Translational Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez is a professor of medicine and of epidemiology & population health at Einstein, and the director of clinical cardiology research and of cardiovascular epidemiology at Montefiore.

Faculty Scholars

Elizabeth J. Chuang, M.D., has been named the Dr. Shoshanah Trachtenberg Frackman Faculty Scholar in Biomedical Ethics. Dr. Chuang is an associate professor of medicine, of epidemiology & population health, and of family and social medicine at Einstein, and the director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics.

Kira Gritsman, M.D., Ph.D., has been named the Betty and Sheldon Feinberg Senior Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. Dr. Gritsman is an associate professor of oncology, of medicine, and of cell biology at Einstein, as well as a co-leader of the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center Stem Cell & Cancer Biology Program.

Derek Huffman, Ph.D., has been named the Lotti and Bernard Benson Faculty Scholar in Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Huffman is a professor of molecular pharmacology and of medicine at Einstein.

Marina Konopleva, M.D., Ph.D., has been named the Miriam Mandel Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. Dr. Konopleva is a professor of oncology and of molecular pharmacology at Einstein, and the director of the Leukemia Program and a co-director of the Blood Cancer Institute at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Gregoire Lauvau, Ph.D., has been named the Sylvia and Robert S. Olnick Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. He is a professor of microbiology & immunology at Einstein.

David Loeb, M.D., Ph.D., has been named the Linda and Earle Altman Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. He is a professor of pediatrics and of developmental and molecular biology at Einstein, the chief of hematology/oncology in the department of pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and a member of the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Nicholas Sibinga, M.D., a leader in the study of the biology of blood vessels and vascular diseases, has been named the Charles and Tamara Krasne Faculty Scholar in Cardiovascular Research. Dr. Sibinga is a professor of medicine and of developmental and molecular biology at Einstein.

Melissa Wasserstein, M.D., has been named the Patricia T. and Charles S. Raizen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatrics. Dr. Wasserstein is a professor of pediatrics and of genetics and the associate director of the Rose F. Kennedy Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center at Einstein, and the chief of the division of pediatric genetic medicine at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. 

Britta Will, Ph.D., has been named the Diane and Arthur B. Belfer Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. Dr. Will is an associate professor of oncology, of medicine, and of cell biology at Einstein, and a co-leader of the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center Stem Cell & Cancer Biology Program. She is also a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Scholar.
