Ann Petra D’Adamo, M.D. ’72, age 86, one of only three women in her class of 115 medical students, graduating in an accelerated three-year program, who was a retired director of the emergency department of Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta and the 2016 recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Volunteer Award from the Somerset County (Ga.) Federation of Democratic Women, July 21, 2024.

Byron Amdur Eliashof, M.D. ’61, age 89, psychiatrist who practiced from 1967 to 2012 and was a clinical professor of psychiatry at the John A. Burns School of Medicine and a lecturer at the School of Social Work at the University of Hawaii, July 7, 2024, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Eileen Frances Wolf Feldman, M.D. ’80, age 70, former chief of nephrology at Worcester City (Mass.) Hospital, who retired from the department of nephrology at St. Vincent’s Hospital and is survived by her husband, James Feldman, M.D. ’80, and daughters Stephanie Feldman, M.D., and Hope Feldman, M.D. ’18, Aug. 11, 2024, Boston, Mass.

Raj Kumar Gupta, Ph.D., age 80, professor emeritus in both biochemistry and physiology and biophysics, whose career at Einstein spanned more than 30 years and who was renowned for his innovative use of nuclear magnetic resonance to study the mechanisms of diseased cells and tissues, May 27, 2024, Old Greenwich, Conn.

Harvey Karten, M.D. ’59, age 89, distinguished professor emeritus of neuroscience and a founding faculty member at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, who was a pioneer in studying nonmammalian vertebrate brains, considered a “great-grandfather” of comparative neuroanatomy, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, July 15, 2024.

Paul Rochmis, M.D. ’64, age 85, a rheumatologist for 45 years in Fairfax, Va., and a clinical professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical School and chief of rheumatology at Fairfax Hospital, who, after being diagnosed with amyloidosis late in his life, researched the disease and produced a regular newsletter to help hundreds of others, July 26, 2024, Vienna, Va.

Herbert Schneiderman, M.D. ’60, age 93, retired professor of pediatrics at SUNY Update Medical University and the winner of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching over a dozen times, who developed some of the first computer-based clinical simulations in the U.S., which were made available to medical schools across the country, Aug. 24, 2024, Syracuse, N.Y.

Peter E. Schwartz, M.D. ’66, age 83, professor emeritus of obstetrics, gynecology & reproductive sciences at Yale School of Medicine, who established neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment as the standard approach worldwide for ovarian cancer, pioneered minimally invasive techniques for controlling massive hemorrhage in the postpartum patient, and established the Yale early detection program for ovarian cancer, one of the first such programs in the country, Oct. 20, 2024, New Haven, Conn.
