Dean Tomer Announces Major Appointments

Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Finance Named

Jennifer Garner, M.S.W., has been named senior associate dean for operations and finance at Einstein.

Most recently she was the unified administrator and senior director in the department of medicine at Einstein and Montefiore. “Ms. Garner brings 23 years of experience in finance and operations and a record of successful strategic planning to this role,” says Yaron Tomer, M.D., the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean at Einstein. “She will help establish and assess priorities involving the College of Medicine’s overall operations and budgetary resources to ensure that planning, action, and measures of success are aligned to advance Einstein’s mission.”

Ms. Garner has overseen the financial and operational integrity of the department of medicine’s $84 million clinical budget and $66 million research budget. She worked closely with Dr. Tomer in spearheading strategic planning efforts and in implementing innovative programs that led to substantial annual increases in both departmental revenue and provider clinical productivity.

Ms. Garner’s prior roles include administrator of the division of endocrinology, diabetes, and bone disease at Mount Sinai Health System and operations director at the Hospital Medicine Group in Baton Rouge, La.

Inaugual Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Strategic Planning Appointed

Elizabeth Kitsis, M.D., MBE, a rheumatologist, professor of medicine, and vice chair for faculty affairs in the department of medicine at Einstein and Montefiore, has been appointed inaugural senior associate dean for faculty affairs and strategic planning.

“In her new role, Dr. Kitsis will support Einstein’s diverse faculty in all aspects of professional development and well-being, including oversight of faculty appointments and promotions, annual evaluations, and faculty mentoring,” Dr. Tomer said. “Importantly, she will lead our strategic planning process to ensure the College of Medicine continues its mission of excellence.”

Previously, Dr. Kitsis oversaw the appointment, promotion, and credentialing of more than 700 faculty. She led the development of the department of medicine’s strategic plan, and led the creation of its Physician Awards program, Faculty Scholars program, professional development reviews, well-being initiative, and GRANDMED speaker program.

Dr. Kitsis joined Montefiore Einstein in 2008 as director of bioethics education. She was appointed associate chair for faculty affairs in the department of medicine in 2014 and was promoted to vice chair in 2016.
